Recipe for success: Cranberry relish

I am here to tell you cranberry relish isn't just for the holiday season. But you need to know this now because in a few short weeks cranberries in the bag are hard to come by, so buy in bulk today and freeze for the upcoming months (which is a reverse of the common wisdom to squirrel away food for the winter). Anyway...the recipe, please:

  1. Gather the ingredients: 1 bag of cranberries, 1 orange, sugar
  2. Rinse the cranberries and pick out any bad ones.
  3. Cut the orange into rough segments (keep the peel on unless it is a thick peel and then you might want to cut some of it off).
  4. Place the cranberries and oranges in a food processor and chop (this might have to be done in 2 batches).
  5. Add sugar to taste - some people like a lot of sugar (like 3/4 cup) while others prefer the tart taste of less sugar.
  6. Put it in the fridge to marinate a while (a few hours or overnight) and then enjoy!

  1. Another variation: grate in some fresh ginger for extra zing. I tried that at Thanksgiving and it was a hit. Love those bowls.

  2. mmm...sounds delicious! My mom made a variation using tangerines and it was quite tasty, but a product of necessity.
