Pictured below is a set of drawers. A really nice set of drawers that might make a girl drool when she first sees them online. By 'girl' I mean me and by 'might drool' I mean I actually salivated -- should I have that checked out? But not having the financial means or physical space (these drawers are expensive with a capital $ and quite massive) for such a sophisticated set of drawers meant I needed to take matters into my own hands if I wanted to introduce some organization with panache to the home office. My crafty stuff isn't going to organize itself, you know.
After spotting this 5 bin organizer drawer from The Container Store I got the little hamster wheel up and running on overdrive. I liked the design, the dimensions were nice, but wouldn't a little bit of color go a long way? Yeah, I thought so too.
A little bit of convincing Daniel this was a fantastic idea and we were off to the races. We went to an art store to select an array of unique colors in the blue/green color range, adding a few striking colors to give it a similar pop as the inspiration. We then quickly dismantled the drawers and each drawer was hung by bungee cords in the garage and sprayed. Even with proper ventilation, this project offers several hours of being light-headed from spray paint fumes as an added bonus (Daniel, the resident spray paint artist, did the bulk of the spray painting). Once the paint dried we put everything back together with nary a leftover screw and landed a piece of furniture with personality and a whopping $4500 cheaper than the inspiration. What to spend all that cash-ola on?
