Day 6 . Skagway/Haines

Skagway was our official port-of-call, but most the excursions took place in Haines - a small town only a 45 minute boatride away (20 minutes by plane and 7-8 hours by car). Haines was an adorably picturesque town nestled between the moutains and a fjord, although "adorable...town...mountains...water" is how I could describe most the towns we visited. We went kayaking on the breathtakingly beautiful Lake Chilkoot. You may think I am overdoing it with the adjectives, but seriously, the Alaskan scenery was just so perfect and unlike any location I've been to.
Much to the benefit of our "we want to see a whale/bear/moose" mentality, the entrance to the lake is a bear sanctuary and a juvenile
brown bear graced us with his/her presence. The guides let us get just close enough to snap some shots and giggle with nervous

excitement, but when the bear checked out our kayaks we huddled close to home base. The bear moved along and we climbed into

our kayaks with all the grace that can be expected of gluttonous cruise goers that have little experience kayaking and have just had their first encounter with a bear outside of a zoo.
